Susteau (fka OWA) Moondust Hair Wash Review 2020 | Eco-friendly, sustainable powder shampoo
The Top Line: We like OWA’s Hair Wash! We like that it can replace 4 full sized bottles of liquid shampoo, with no need to use a separate conditioner. Most importantly, our hair and scalp feels incredible clean and healthy afterwords — worth the bit of price premium over other options.

The Breakdown:
Cost & Products: $29.99 for 1 bottle (which replaces up to 4 standard shampoo bottles).
How ‘Clean’ Is This? While it comes in a small plastic bottle, the powder to lather formula means you can replace 4 full sized bottles of shampoo with OWA Hair Wash. It is free of sulfates, parabens, silicones, phtalates, and synthetic colors and fragrance. Since it is powder form, it also reduces the carbon footprint from shipping. We do wish they would make it refillable though!
Packaging: Small plastic bottle, paper/recyclable packaging.
Purchasing & Shipping: Quick checkout and shipping at owahaircare.com.
Good to know: Liquid shampoos are on average 80% water! OWA Hair Wash is powder to foam, so extra awesome for travel.
What’s Your Impact? 1 bottle of hair wash = 4 standard bottles of liquid shampoo!
The Experience
Context: I have an sensitive scalp (irritable, dandruff, etc.) and typically wash my hair 2-3x a week. I’ve used Head & Shoulders as well as Living Proof most consistently over the years.
I found OWA Hair Wash to be incredibly soothing to my scalp.
Love that I didn’t need to use a separate conditioner product — almost too good to be true?
Hair and scalp felt very clean (but not too squeaky clean) afterwards, hair felt soft.
Scent is very light — we would have preferred a bit more scent actually.
Overall, very happy with the experience! Great product to bring when traveling as well.
The Cost
We compared OWA Hair Wash with shampoo bars and bottled liquid shampoos, and found it to be less expensive than premium liquid shampoos like Living Proof and Pureology, but more expensive all shampoo bar options. However, it is worth noting that with OWA, you don’t need to separately spend on a conditioner product.
Money Report:
The Good:
✔ Hair and scalp felt AMAZING after - clean and healthy
✔ Love the tiny size, very travel friendly and minimal packaging
✔ Made with plant-based rice protein, rich in amino acids, to add natural shine and fullness
✔ Aloe vera for conditioning and hydration for hair and scalp
✔ Free of sulfates, parabens, silicones, phtalates, and synthetic colors and fragrance
✔ Vegan and cruelty-free
The Bad:
✗ Pricier than shampoo bar options and generic liquid shampoo options
✗ Comes in a plastic bottle (albeit very tiny), and we wish this was refillable!
