Mochi's Paws Compostable Dog Waste Bags Review | Vegetable Based Biodegradable Zero-Waste Dog Waste Bags

Mochi's Paws Compostable Dog Waste Bags Review | Vegetable Based Biodegradable Zero-Waste Dog Waste Bags

The Top Line: Its a buy! We like Mochi’s Paws compostable dog waste bags because they are truly biodegradable, and at a reasonable price. Bags are easy to open as well. However, the bags are a bit on the smaller side — fine for our 18lb pooch, but may not be enough for larger dogs out there.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $12.99 for 120 bags

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? The cleanest option there is for bagging your pup’s poop! Its made to be 100% compostable - vegetable-based (corn starch) and a much better option than the pseudo-'biodegradable’ options we see heavily marketed that aren’t actually compostable and will not fully degrade properly. Certified ASTM D6400 in USA, EN13432 and OK-Compost in Europe.

  • Packaging: Comes in a recyclable cardboard box.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: We purchased on Amazon

  • Good to know: A portion of proceeds go to animal rescues and no-kill shelters.

  • Coupons: None.

  • What’s Your Impact? Mochi’s Paws dog waste bags are made from cornstarch, 100% biodegradable, and breaks down in just 90 days. We estimate that for each dog, we go through at least 730 dog waste bags a year — that is a lot of extra plastic bags out there!

The Experience

Context: We’ve got a 4 year old pup and have tried every dog poop bag under the sun. We were particularly frustrated to find out that our previous poop bags that were advertised as biodegradable were NOT actually very green!

Note: if you see EPI or Oxo-Biodegradable, it is NOT compostable and are still made of plastic — just plastic with a chemical on it to help it break down, and creates persistent micro-plastics that stay in the environment.

  • Easy to open (so key, especially for those in drier and colder climates!)

  • Thick material

  • No holes that we see

  • Smaller bag (standard sized and fine for our smaller pup, but could see those with larger dogs wanting something bigger)

The Cost:

We estimate that for each dog, there might be 2 poops a day — so we go through at least 730 dog waste bags a year!

Money Report: Mochi’s Paws is in the middle of the pack when it comes to price per bag.

The Good:

Beautiful, fun design and brand

Premium 100% compostable, corn starch based bags

Easy to open

No tears or holes when we unroll the bag

The Bad:

Bags are on the smaller side - fine for a smaller pooch, but may be not as ideal for large dogs

Our Recommendation: Its a buy! We like Mochi’s Paws compostable dog waste bags because they are truly biodegradable, and at a reasonable price. Bags are easy to open as well. However, the bags are a bit on the smaller side — fine for our 18lb pooch, but may not be enough for larger dogs out there.

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
