Mintly Toothpaste, Toothbrush, & Floss Review Roundup | Eco-Friendly, Zero-waste Toothpaste
The Top Line:
MAYBE buy. Mintly’s toothpaste, toothbrush and floss are very clean from an ingredient standpoint. However, we were not any more impressed with the products over other brands we’ve tried. Plus, cost-wise, Mintly is pretty much in line with the other brands, not making it any more enticing to buy. Lastly, we really like that there is an ingredient to re-mineralize teeth (fluoride) but we would slightly prefer nHap
The Breakdown:
Cost & Products: There are so many options that can cheapen the cost (bundles or bigger packs), but here is what we got: $9.00 for 60 toothpaste tablets; $5.00 for a toothbrush; $5.00 for floss
How ‘Clean’ Is This? Very clean - toothpaste has fluoride but there is a non-fluoride option; the floss is made of corn silk and candelilla wax; and the toothbrush is made of bamboo and then “earth-friendly” bristles.
Packaging: Comes in compostable and/or recyclable paper as well as recyclable glass
Purchasing & Shipping: Shopping on the website is straightforward given there are few ingredients. Shipping over $25 is free.
What’s Your Impact? No more plastic toothbrushes, no more plastic tubes of toothpaste, no more plastic floss and floss packaging.
The Good:
✔ Very clean ingredients, all recognizable and rated 1
✔ Zero plastic packaging - all paper and glass
✔ Has fluoride and non-fluoride option
✔ Flavor is neutral
The Bad:
✗ Texture of the toothpaste and floss was questionable
✗ Price is not notable
The Experience
Context: We have wanted to try a zero waste toothpaste for so long! We also wanted to find a better bamboo brush and always up to try a new floss. We recently reviewed Bite, Chomp, and Huppy.
Smaller tablets than the others
Subtle mint flavor
Crushes up like powdery aspirin - not our favorite
Made with fluoride instead of nHap (we prefer nHap)
Handle is soft and smooth
Bristles are between a soft and medium
A bit squeaky is how we’d describe it
Mostly stays together, but shreds here and there
The Cost
The Mintly toothpaste tablets are good for one brush. We did a bit of homework, and with each brush, you use about 0.5grams of regular toothpaste, so 365 grams per year if you’re a twice-a-day brusher.
For toothbrushes, we assume you change your toothbrush every 3 months, as the ADA recommends.
We did the math for for 1 person per year in the below calculations.
Money Report: Wowie, the Mintly toothpaste is still on the pricey side. The floss and toothbrushes are in line.

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
