Huppy Dental Care Roundup Review | Zero-Waste and Plant-Based Toothpaste Tablets, Vegan Floss and Bamboo Toothbrush
The Top Line
BUY (Definitely for the toothpaste!). Huppy: zero-waste, plant-based toothpaste! (We did it, we rhymed.) We really like the ingredients of Huppy - all natural and contains a fluoride alternative called nHap. The bamboo toothbrush is ok - just based on cost while the floss is probably a skip from us. Note: zero waste toothpaste is just going to be a lot more expensive than drugstore brands. However, we like that the active ingredient is nHap, so if your budget allows, we think the switch could be worth it.
The Breakdown
Cost and Products? We tried the Toothpaste Duo $20 for 124 tablets; Bamboo Toothbrushes $10; and the Dental Floss $12.
How ‘Clean’ is this? Really clean! From the ingredients down to the packaging, there isn’t an ingredient or product that is hard to understand/bad for you or the environment.
Packaging: Everything is biodegradable or recyclable .. including the ink that is printed on the boxes and bags.
What’s Your Impact?
Toothpaste: No more plastic toothbrushes, no more plastic tubes of toothpaste, no more plastic floss and floss packaging.
Also, fluoride toothpaste, by FDA requirements, has to be tested on animals. Since Bite Toothpaste Bits contain nHap instead of fluoride, they are cruelty-free.
Toothbrush: No plastic toothbrush in the landfill; instead, it is made of biodegradable bamboo.
Floss: Your reduction in plastics, micro-plastics, and harmful chemicals. Most commercial floss is made from some type of nylon and are coated in a potentially dangerous PFC-laden wax. If you floss regularly, you eliminate almost five plastic floss holders from piling up in the landfills per year.
It may not sound like a lot, but to us, the quality of this floss and the comparable cost to our previous brands make our switch to silk floss worth it.
The Good:
✔ Clean ingredients, 100% plant-based (careful with dogs around though, contains Xylitol which is good for your teeth but toxic to dogs!)
✔ nHAP to re-mineralize teeth (instead of fluoride)
✔ Whitens teeth
✔ Fluoride-free; plastic-free; sls-free
✔ Bamboo and castor bean toothbrush
✔ Candelilla wax and corn floss
✔ Peppermint, Charcoal, and watermelon strawberry flavors
✔ Toothpaste is well priced; toothbrush is in line
✔ Pending B-Corp status!
The Bad:
✗ Price of floss is high
✗ Also didn’t love the floss feel compared to others we’ve tried
The Experience
Context: We have been on a mission to find a good zero waste toothpaste. We also wanted to find a better bamboo brush and always up to try a new floss. Huppy offers all three in zero-waste: toothpaste, toothbrush, and floss.
Toothbrush
Made of Moso Bamboo and castor beans
This toothbrush is decent to use - not a ‘flossing’ toothbrush but the bristles are reasonably soft
Natural bristles (no plastic!)
The handle is smoothed out so it doesn’t feel like you’re holding a piece of wood
Floss
The floss is super skinny to get in between really tight contact teeth (super close together).
Floss has ripped once or twice, but is decently strong.
Has a weird wax feel to it that other natural flosses haven’t had.
It is unflavored.
Toothpaste Tablets
The texture of these tablets is kind of like the WalDental tablets - fine and dusty.
Once you start brushing, it takes about 20 seconds to get to familiar bubbles (Note: bubbles don’t actually do anything! Suds make people feel better.)
The overall experience leaves our teeth feeling super clean.
Instead of fluoride, the toothpaste bits use nHap to strengthen and re-mineralize teeth. You can read all about it on the Huppy website.

Cost Breakdown
The Money Report:
The Huppy toothpaste, when bought in bulk, is one of the cheapest zero waste options — though significantly more than drugstore brands like Colgate or Crest. Bite is a touch cheaper, but you have to commit to a subscription. The toothbrush cost is generally in line with the cost of Bamboo toothbrushes out there. Huppy floss is also on the pricier side, considering it’s not silk but made from Candelilla wax and corn starch.

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
