How ‘Clean’ Is This? Very! Minimal packaging, concentrated formula, biodegradable and septic-safe formula.
Packaging: Each reusable cardboard and steel canister comes with a 1 tablespoon scoop inside. Refills come in a paper bag.

What’s Your Impact? Traditional liquid laundry detergents are usually packaged in high density polyethylene. 68% of these bottles are not recycled and contribute to the approximately 275 metric tons of plastic waste that goes into our oceans and waterways annually. A family of 4 would typically go through 5-6 plastic jugs of laundry detergent (that can be used for 64 loads) over the course of a year.
The Experience
Context: We have been devout Dropps laundry pod fans since we reviewed it in February, but Meliora’s laundry powder might be giving them a run for their money! We purchased the lavender scented laundry powder from Meliora.
The scent is incredible. We love all things lavender, especially lavender scented sheets. It is VERY light scent though, not heavy handed or perfumed at all. If anything, we might want a bit more scent!
We ran a few loads of laundry with Meliora’s laundry powder, one in particular that was extra soiled from a weekend hiking trip. Happy to confirm everything came out nice and clean!
Overall, we are very happy with Meliora, and will likely continue to use the brand.
The Cost
There are A LOT of options out there for laundry — we compiled both powder and pod options for comparison, including brands like Dropps, Method, Seventh Generation, Charlie’s Soap, Gain, Tide, and Charlie’s.
Money Report: Meliora is stunningly affordable compared to the rest, even when compared to Tide. As you know, we are particularly excited when we have a product that is clean AND affordable!
The Good:

✔ Extremely simple ingredient list, with organic essential oils for scented options (we LOVE the lavender)
✔ Made in the USA (Chicago!)
✔ Highly concentrated with 1 tablespoon enough in a standard washing machine, or 1/2 scoop for a high efficiency machine
✔ Septic safe and 100% biodegradable
✔ Great to use for handwashing delicates or spot cleaning as well
✔ Plastic free!
The Bad:
✗ Powder can be a bit more messy than pods, but we will live with it given the savings!
