EcoAroma Scented Candle 2021 Review | Sustainable coconut soy wax pillar candle
The Top Line: Not a buy!
While the pricing is very reasonable for the size of candle you get with EcoAroma, we were very disappointed with all the plastic in the packaging! The candle itself seemed to burn cleanly and smelled nice, but the packaging defeats the whole purpose of our going for a pillar candle to be low-waste!
The Breakdown:
Cost & Products: $19.99 for their 3” x 6” candle (85 hour burn time)
How ‘Clean’ Is This? While the candle is touted to be made of clean ingredients (coconut and soy wax, paraffin-free), the packaging was terrible. More on this below.
Packaging: There was a TON of unnecessary plastic in the packaging — from the plastic window in the box it came in to the candle itself being wrapped in a hard plastic.
Purchasing & Shipping: We bought ours on Amazon.
Good to Know: Smells pretty awesome
Coupons: Nah, it’s on Amazon.
Whats Your Impact? No more empty glass, metal or ceramic containers after you burn through a candle! Unfortunately, the rest of the packaging had a little too much plastic.
The Experience
We like the simple essential oil based scent.
Smells lovely, not too heavy-handed
Burns well, no extra smoke and does not appear to burn too quickly
The Cost
We compared EcoAroma to a few other candles, ranging from more mass options like Mrs. Meyers and Chesapeake Bay to more specialty options like Boy Smells, as well as zero-waste options like Siblings. We assumed an average burn time of 10 hours per week x 52 weeks, to get to 520 of annual burn time a year:
Money Thoughts: EcoAroma is on the lower end in terms of pricing.
The Good:
✔ Smells fabulous and natural
✔ Candle is biodegradable and sustainable
✔ Priced super reasonably
The Bad:
✗ The packaging is really disappointing — so much unnecessary plastic!
✗ Well, they could maybe offer a little bit of a discount and encourage us to buy in bulk — and save shipping carbon footprint.
Our Recommendation: Not a buy!

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
