Kuchenprofi Dish Washing Brush Review 2020 | Zero-Waste Dish Washing Brush
The Top Line:
Kuchenprofi Dish Washing brush feels a splurge if you’re used to the disposable, cheapie brushes like we had in the past. We sprung for an OXO once, only to be disappointed to find out all plastic bristles bent like spaghetti in hot water. Kuchenprofi’s brush has bristles made of b̶o̶a̶r̶ agave (! thank you to a reader who fact checked this!)* and a cool metal handle, which avoids potential mold.
If you already pay for fancy brushes that you end up tossing into the garbage, Kuchenprofi zero-waste brush is a BUY given its compostable and replaceable head and its scrubbing ability in hot water.
*Kuchenprofi used to use boar, but switched over to a fiber made from the agave plant.

The Breakdown:
Cost & Products: $11.31 for a wooden brush with reusable metal handle
How ‘Clean’ Is This? As clean as it gets— Zero Plastic.
Packaging: No Packaging - arrived in the amazon box without a package. Awesome.
Purchasing & Shipping: We bought ours on Amazon but it’s available on the Kuchenprofi website
Good to Know: There are plenty of zero-waste, replaceable head brushes out there, but most come with wooden handles. Consistently, the reviews would state that the wooden handle would get moldy, which is why we opted for the all metal option.
Coupons: Nah, it’s on Amazon
What’s Your Impact? No plastic brush. The metal holder is 100% reusable. The brush head can be composted and the handle can be recycled. Plus, we found that we threw out plastic brushes rather frequently given how quickly they lost their scrubbing power.
The Efficacy
We’ve previously used $1 plastic brushes as well as brushes made by OXO.
The natural bristles work just as well as the OXO, if not better (the plastic on OXO gets weak and bends in the hot water)
We used the bristles on our stainless steal pots and pans as well as our wooden cutting boards.
The Cost
We are going to assume you replace your brush every two years. For the the Kuchenprofi zero waste brush, you will purchase scrubber refills. Refills are about $4.50
Kuchenprofi Dish Washing Brush $11 | 2-year cost: $16
Redecker Brush $11 | 2-year cost:: $20
OXO Good Grips Brush $10 | 2-year cost: $20
Pine Sol Brush $2 | 2-year cost: $4
Phyex Sol Brush (2pack) $7 | 2-year cost: $7
Money Thoughts: No sugarcoating, it’s definitely on the more expensive end on an annual cost basis when compared to typical kitchen brands or just any brush off of Amazon. Of the refillable options, it is definitely cheaper to replace: $4.50 for Kuchenprofi versus $9 for Redecker.
The Good:
✔ Reusable metal handle that will not mold
✔ Bristles do a great job in scrubbing and don’t become flexible in hot water
✔ Genuinely looks nice on the counter top
✔ Replaceable brush head
✔ Compostable brush head
The Bad:
✗ On the more expensive end of brushes, when compared to the cheap plastic options
Our Recommendation:
Hoping to find value for the price, we were already at the OXO level of pricing. Unfortunately, our OXO with plastic bristles lost its usefulness pretty soon after we had bought it. Kuchenprofi bristles are made of natural b̶o̶a̶r̶ ̶b̶r̶i̶s̶t̶l̶e̶s̶ Mexican agave plant (special shout out to a reader who corrected us!), so it functions even in hot water. Even though the price is toward a splurge, it is the cheapest replaceable option out there. Each replacement going forward is $4.50 per head. Plus, honestly, our $1 brushes don’t even last a whole year, so we fill the landfill even faster. Kuchenprofi Dish Washing brush is a BUY for us.
We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
