The Laundress Kitchen Hand Soap Review 2020| Zero-Waste Hand and Wood Soap

The Laundress Kitchen Hand Soap Review 2020| Zero-Waste Hand and Wood Soap

The Top Line:

The Laundress is best known for the lovely laundry products, however, we tried the zero waste kitchen hand soap. It was a love at first scent. We didn’t mean to buy a hand soap — we were trying for a dish soap. Pleasantly surprised at the scent and that it double duties to wash your wooden wears, we think this is a luxury, splurge BUY.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $8.00 for one bar of soap

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Pretty clean - it came in a recyclable wrapper.

  • Packaging: Paper, recyclable wrapper

  • Purchasing & Shipping: We bought ours on Amazon also available on The Laundress site

  • Good to Know: Smells pretty awesome

  • Coupons: Nah, it’s on Amazon. But Laundress site has 30% off with ‘SPRING30’

  • What’s Your Impact? No plastic bottles for kitchen soaps. (Plus your hands smell awesome.)

The Efficacy

We’ve typically use a normal pump soap, never had a fancy de-stinking soap like this one before. You are apparently able to use it both on hands and wooden items to remove cooking smells.

  • Lathers nicely

  • Smells, it does indeed remove

  • It’s no more drying than any other soap

  • Smells like a well-dressed gentleman

  • We tried it with the Kuchenprofi brush, which we reviewed here

The Cost

We are going to compare it to other hand soaps that claim to remove food smells from hands:

Money Thoughts: Straight up, this is a luxury item. You would only be using this if you want your hands to smell as if you were not just cutting 5 cloves of garlic. It smells nice and it’s the only one we found that is available in soap bar form that allows you to use it on wooden items. The other two, Kirk and EnviroKlenz, are both housed in a plastic bottle

The Good:

Smells fabulous (bergamot, thyme, eucalyptus, lavender, and ylang-ylang)

No use of plastic

Suds up nicely

Cleans well

Did we mention it smells awesome?

The Bad:

Need a dish, otherwise melt like any other soap

Our Recommendation:
The Laundress Kitchen Soap smells fabulous and does a great job in removing smells. We loved it. While it is definitely a luxury zero-waste item (one which we did not intend on purchasing), we think this is a BUY if you want a fancy kitchen soap.

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
