Plus Body Wash in Cloud, Summer, and Waves Review | Zero-Waste Body Wash Sheets

Plus Body Wash in Cloud, Summer, and Waves Review | Zero-Waste Body Wash Sheets

The Top Line:

No. We just cannot. While we think it’s a clever option for traveling, and the technology of the dissolvable sachet is super cool, Plus Body Wash is a no for us. The sachet requires using dry (!) hands to open up…and at a high price point. Leaping Bunny certified, paraben-free, phthalate-free, and sulfate-free, this zero-waste body, very eco-conscious wash also has a nice scent. We think it might be a good travel option?

Note: While very appreciated, free product will not sway our opinion. We were not compensated for Plus Body Wash, but we did receive complementary samples.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $16.50 for 16 sheets or $29.70 (10% discount) for 32 if you subscribe

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Many long names on the ingredients list for this one, but generally still pretty safe. Note that Waves and Summer have fragrance. No sulfates, parabens, phthalates. It is pH-balanced, vegan, cruelty free, Leaping Bunny certified.

  • Packaging: Compostable zip pouch to keep the sachets dry. The dissolvable sachets are made from wood pulp from responsibly managed FSC forests, and the ink is non-toxic.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: Purchasing on the Plus website is straightforward. Shipping is a flat fee of $3.75

  • What’s Your Impact? No more plastic bottles for shower gel or body wash. Plus better ingredients that make it down your drain.

The average person uses 11 bottles of shower gel per year!

The Good:

Better ingredients overall

Scented options are nice and light - we like Summer

Zero waste packaging - compostable waterproof bags and dissolvable pulp sachets around the ‘body sheet’

Paraben-free, sulfate-free, cruelty-free, fragrance-free (option with the Cloud)

Leaping Bunny certified

The Bad:

Not cheaper than most body washes

Need dry hands to open the Plus Body Wash sachet - bit odd experience - perhaps it’s easier for those who don’t deep condition (see later)

The Experience

Context: We have been using bar soap for years. One of our OG strategies in reducing plastic came from wanting to reduce our monthly bills. Plus offers another option to zero waste with its body wash in completely dissolvable sachets.

  • Well, it’s different.

  • Even though Plus calls this a body wash - it’s like a cross between a laundry sheet and a thin sliver of soap.

  • Maybe TMI: we let wash then conditioner sit a couple minutes while we scrub up. Our hands are going to be wet. These are just the facts.

  • Ripping the sachet open after we’ve entered the glass shower is an ordeal. Where do you put the body wash for easy access? while not getting it wet? in a shower?

  • Smell is lovely on the two scented options.

  • Maybe if you’re a dude or person with short hair, this is less of an issue.

  • Or maybe for travel? or camping?

  • But holy moly! the paper dissolved IMMEDIATELY which is both cool and also the weird part of using the Plus body wash

The Cost

We mainly compared the Plus Body Wash Sheets to a few drugstore shower gels and soaps, like Dove Deep moisture and Method Body Wash as well as the Fresh Body wash at Sephora. Bar soaps that we included were SImplici, Whole Foods, Grove Collaborative, Splendor, and others.

Money Report: Nothing beats bar soap: even the most luxurious are going to be cheapest. Unfortunately, Plus Body Wash doesn’t even beat drugstore liquid body washes. It’s only cheaper than some of those mid-range splurges on body wash.

Our Recommendation:

No. We just cannot. While we think it’s a clever option perhaps for traveling, and the technology of the dissolvable sachet is cool, Plus Body Wash is a no for us. The sachet requires using dry (!) hands to open up as well as the high price point. Leaping Bunny certified, paraben-free, phthalate-free, and sulfate-free, this zero-waste body, very eco-conscious wash also has a nice scent. Maybe it’s a good travel option?

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
