Full Circle Cleanya Colada Scrubber Sponge Review 2021 | Eco-friendly Kitchen Sponge Alternative
The Top Line: It’s a buy! While the Full Circle Cleanya Colada scrubber sponge is a bit pricier than the walnut sponge, we like that the scrubber side is heavier duty and it looks great even if we leave it out on our counters! Not to mention that it’s made of cellulose, coconut husk and recycled plastic!
The Breakdown:
Cost & Products: The Full Circle Cleanya Colada scrubber sponge is $4.49 for a two-pack.
How ‘Clean’ Is This? Better, more clean than normal sponges — but the coconut husk-based scrubber and vegetable cellulose are still not biodegradable.
Packaging: It comes wrapped in a biodegradable plastic that meets ASTM D-6400 standards for composability in industrial facilities, and may also break down in home composting environments.
Purchasing & Shipping: We purchased the Full Circle Cleanya Colada scrubber sponge on Amazon.
Good to know: Dishwasher safe. You can also microwave it to disinfect.
What’s Your Impact? While better than normal sponges — its not biodegradable.
The Experience
Context: We have been using Scotch-Brite sponges over the years, and excited to a more ‘natural’ version.
We really appreciate the ‘natural look’ of these sponges. Why do sponges need to be bright neon colors? We’re not looking for these guys to stand out!
These lasted as long as other sponges we have tried in the past! Didn’t shrivel up or smell after use.
The Cost
We assume below that you will change your sponge every month, and compared it with Scotch-Brite, Scrub Daddy and Public Goods.
If you aren’t a Public Goods subscriber — these might be worth it, though I feel as though I would be purchasing it more for the look than the price as it is still 2X the cost of Scotch-Brite.
The Good:
✔ Made of ‘greener’ ingredients
✔ The coconut husk scrubber is really heavy duty!
✔ We like the look of it — we have always hated the neon bright sponge colors
✔ Works just as well as our previous normal sponge
✔ Doesn’t shrivel up or smell after use
The Bad:
✗ 2X the cost of Scotch-brite
✗ We wish the sponge was more biodegradable, or the packaging was paper!
Our Recommendation:

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
