Davidson's Hibiscus Loose Leaf Tea Review 2020 Review | Zero-Waste Tea Leaves

Davidson's Hibiscus Loose Leaf Tea Review 2020 Review | Zero-Waste Tea Leaves

The Top Line:

After trying Davidson’s Hibiscus tea, we were pleased to discover that loose leaf teas can be easy and tasty. Part of it is because we finally fell in love with a tea strainer we used, one which is no longer in stock. That said, we loved this hibiscus tea because it was 100% dried hibiscus leaves, which tasted lovely both hot and cold. 100% BUY.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $11 for 16oz

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? No plastic!

  • Packaging: Amazon box contained one zipped paper bag of tea leaves!

  • Purchasing & Shipping: Amazon…

  • Good to Know: We have tried many tea strainers that we didn’t like before finding our favorite. Sadly it is no longer in stock.
Hibiscus leaves don’t really need a tea strainer, but it’s more pleasant when you use one.

  • Coupons: Nah… It’s amazon

  • What’s Your Impact? No boxes of tea, no tea bags, no glue, no staples. Just … tea!

The Taste

We still like to mix up our teas: we’ve had all of the drugstore brands as well as a few fancy ones.

  • Pretty straightforward - this is pure hibiscus

  • About 1 tablespoon of leaves is enough

  • Tried other flavors and this one is by far our favorite

  • We’ve let it steep in cold water overnight to make an iced tea!

  • They have so many flavors — we are excited to try this coconut chai

The Cost

One of these bag substitutes — wait for it — 226 cups of tea!!

  • Davidson’s Loose leaf Hibiscus Tea 16oz $11

  • Bigelow Hibiscus Roobois (20ct) $3.75 | 226 cups: $108

  • The Republic of Tea Hibiscus (36ct) $20 | 226 cups: $108

  • Traditional Medicinals Hibiscus (16ct) $4.50 | 226 cups: $108

  • Rishi Loose leaf Hibiscus 160z $18 | 226 cups: $18

Money Thoughts: It’s really unfair, but it’s no contest. Davidson’s wins.

The Good:

Simple hibiscus tea

We’ve loved it both hot and cold

Zero waste (no tea bags!)

✔ Lasts a really, really long time- 226 cups!

The Bad:

Maybe you don’t like hibiscus? Or tea in general?

Our Recommendation:
Our adventure into loose leaf tea started a few years ago. Davidson’s Hibiscus tea was our second purchase and we haven’t looked back. We love to throw it in our cold water cup or some hot water with honey. Its simplicity (and cost!) is what makes us say this is a BUY.

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
