Sisal Soap Holder Review 2020 | Eco-friendly, Sustainable Soap Holder Pouch
The Top Line: These Sisal Soap Holders are an absolute BUY.
This is an exfoliating shower pouf and soap holder in 1 - and compostable to boot - we like, we like! They work up a nice, rich lather (not as much as a pouf, but definitely enough for our taste..) exfoliates your skin, and allows you to hang your sustainable bar soap of choice in it! Better than a soap dish, and made of sisal which is compostable.
The Breakdown:
Cost & Products: $8.99 for 5-pack on Amazon, also available at The Earthling
How ‘Clean’ Is This? Cleaner than a plastic soap dish
Packaging: Unfortunately it did come a plastic bag.
Purchasing & Shipping: Purchased on Amazon.
Good to know: There seems to be a lot of debate (in the Amazon reviews) about how this feels on your skin — we think its soft enough that it isn’t abrasive, but enough texture to really give you a good exfoliation!
Coupons: No discounts.
What’s Your Impact? This cuts your need for a separate soap dish and shower pouf —both items that are typically made of plastic.
The Experience
Context: We have been using our Morihata Binchotan Charcoal Body Scrub Towel (which we still love!) but needed some way to hold our soap bars as we stop using bottled body wash. We have been using various soap on a ropes so that we can hang it in the shower and avoid a slimy soap bar situation, but wanted to be able to use soaps that don’t come on a rope!
Overall, we’re happy to report that the sisal soap bag:
Lathers up nicely! We just put our bar soap in the bag, wet it and used it as a scrub (not need to do anything else to create the lather)
The sisal softens up a little bit in the shower, and we found it soft enough to use but with enough texture to give your skin a good exfoliation. Note, this is definitely NOT as soft as a plastic pouf, but we found it a bit softer than a natural loufah
We love that the bag hangs and the soap can dry out, no slimy soap!
The Cost
This was a tough one to compare, as these Sisal Soap Holder Bags double as loufah and soap holder—but at $8.99 for 5 Sisal Bags, its definitely an economical replacement for both items!
Plastic Shower Sponge Loufahs: $7.99 for 4-pack
Natural Exfoliating Loufah Sponge: $11.99 for 6-pack
The Body Shop Exfoliating Skin Towel: $5.00 for 1
Wooden Soap Dish $6.39 for 1
Money Report:
The Good:
✔ No more slimy soap! We have been using soap on a rope (but there is limited selection there, and it is pricier than normal bar soap)
✔ We like the exfoliating sisal
✔ Lathers up nicely
✔ Compostable sisal material
✔ Use your preferred bar soap (we like palm oil free options…)
✔ Very affordable price
The Bad:
✗ Why does it come in a plastic bag? Seems completely unecessary.
✗ We wish the bags have some way of differentiating, when we have more than one hanging in our shower (eg the beads are different colors, or different color tags)
Our Recommendation:
