Redecker Swedish Reusable Dishcloth Review 2020 | Eco-friendly, zero-waste, biodegradeable paper towel and sponge replacement

The Top Line: BUY BUY BUY

We love Swedish reusable dishcloths! Imagine if paper towels and sponges had a baby — a biodegradable, zero-waste one... it would be these dishcloths!

We ESPECIALLY love these from Redecker (even more than other swedish dishcloths we’ve used in the past) for the design and the incredible price. Buy these, and buy many.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $4.99 for 2-pack.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Very very. These guys are reusable (machine washable), and compostable! Made from cellulose, cotton and non-toxic vegetable dye, this set of two dish cloths is sustainable and eco-friendly — and much better for the planet .

  • Packaging: We ordered these from EarthHero and it was just loose in the box with no extra packaging - just how we like it :)

  • Purchasing & Shipping: EarthHero is great, free and fast shipping. No complaints here!

  • Good to know: These dishcloths don’t dry very well in the dishwasher (even with the heat dry), so best to wash and hand wring.

  • What’s Your Impact? Using compostable products means nothing goes in the waste when the dishcloth is no longer usable. Stats say that one person uses, on average, 84 rolls of Paper Towels per year!

The Experience

We love these Swedish Dishcloths!

  • It does absorb a lot of water — more than normal dish towels

  • Feels soft and weighted when wet, really nice texture

  • Reduces our use of sponges and paper towels

  • Made of eco-friendly cellulose which can be composted at home!

The Cost

The estimates suggest that people use about 1.5 rolls of paper towel PER WEEK, per PERSON, which is about 80 rolls. That is a bit nuts to us, so we are going to assume 50 rolls per year instead. Each dishcloth lasts up to ~6 months, but we have generally been replacing every 3 months — we assume 3 months for the dishcloths in analysis below:

Money Thoughts: You really cannot beat the price of the Redecker Swedish Dishcloth. Add to this the fact that the design is more elegant than other swedish dishcloths we have seen out there, we enthusiastically endorse the Redecker Swedish Dishcloth!

The Redecker swedish reusable dishcloth wads up nicely like an extra extra thick paper towel when wet. We like!

The Good:

Made from cellulose, cotton and non-toxic vegetable dye

Compostable and biodegradeable!!!

Machine Washable

We personally love this design, less ‘loud’ than some of the other Swedish dishcloths we have seen

If you take care to clean them and wring them out, these can last up to 6 months!

You cannot beat this price

The Bad:

Can get stained over time

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
