Puracy Stain Remover Review 2023 | Natural Laundry Stain Remover

Puracy Stain Remover: TRR tested it on our white linens. Here is our review.

The Top Line:

OK buy. Puracy Stain Remover worked very well in lifting old and ink stains on our white clothes. We liked that there was no scent or fragrance and the wait time was 15 minutes. The ingredients, while better than mainstream brands, still contain questionable ingredients, but we think it is a step in the right direction. Price-wise, Puracy beat our old reliable Oxi Clean spray on a cost per ounce. Puracy also offers bulk purchases and refills to make the price even more easy on the wallet.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $10.99 for 16oz bottle. The cost gets even cheaper if you buy refills in bulk.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Only moderately cleaner than mainstream stain removers. There are more ingredients overall but only one of them is a potential problem: Benzisothiazolinone.

  • Packaging: We bought ours on Amazon; however, the bottle itself is plastic, albeit recyclable.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: We bought ours on Amazon, but more products are available on the Puracy website. The website suggests that shipping is free for orders >$50 but it seems like it’s free-free!

  • Good to know: Puracy states that the product is color-safe but we have not yet tried the product on colorful clothing. Additionally, Puracy advertises this product as baby-safe with the same ingredients.

  • What’s Your Impact? There are no fragrances and the ingredients are incrementally better than mainstream brands.

The Good:

No Scent - free & clear formula

Fewer harsh chemicals

Works well in removing stains from white clothes

Reasonably priced compared to the competition

Easy to use spray

The Bad:

Still has a chemical that is potentially toxic to aquatic life

The Experience

Context: We have been faithful in using Oxiclean Spray Stain Remover for years. Both Puracy and Oxi Clean come in a plastic bottle but we were hoping to move toward a cleaner laundry routine with better ingredients. Here’s our experience with Puracy Stain Remover:

  • We bought the travel sized and enjoy having the small bottle on-the-go.

  • Skeptical, we used puracy on our workout white (yea, we know), white t-shirts and light colored bedding to test out the stain-removing capability.

  • There is very limited, if any, scent, which we loved.

  • The spray, while in a plastic bottle, is very convenient to use.

  • We were impressed at the brightness in the areas sprayed with the stain remover.

  • Puracy removed ink stains that had been there longer than 48h.

  • Our next steps will be to test out the product on colorful clothing.

The Cost

It is unclear to us how to best compare the price per use among the stain removers. The easiest comparison for Puracy, given it is a liquid, is to compare to Shout Spray and Wash and Oxi Clean Spray. Pretty neat that it is cheaper than our old faithful!

Note: we bought the travel-sized spray and it is REALLY expensive per ounce. We recommend buying the normal sized bottle and filling up a small one (if you have a spare) at home.

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
