Public Goods Peanut Butter and Organic Blueberry Jam Review 2020 | Natural Peanut Butter & Jelly

The Top Line:

Peanut Butter — No. Definitely not. Public Goods Peanut Butter is one of the worst peanut butters we’ve had. With every turn and stir of my knife, all I could think was, “Why do you suck so badly?”

Blueberry Jam — eh. It’s fine, not offensive, but we’ve had better.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $4.75 for a 12oz of PeaBs; $4.00 for 12oz of Jam

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? PeaBs is just peanuts and salt. Organic Jam is a little offensive in that the second ingredient is sugar. What can you do.

  • Packaging: PB: Plastic. We get it: it’s lighter weight and this thing comes all the way from SPAIN. But why rack up carbon emissions?
Jam: Better. It’s in glass. But it came from Denmark. Again, why?

  • Purchasing & Shipping: The website is cleanly designed and ordering is straightforward. The free shipping threshold seems a little on the high side at a minimum of $45. We get it though — limiting shipments means limiting carbon emissions.

  • Coupons: $10 off your first order with ‘BLOG10

  • What’s Your Impact? Self-inflicted frustration from 10 minutes of peanut butter stirring. Otherwise, none. Both are organic, but why are we shipping from Spain and Denmark?

The Process

You didn’t think there would be a process with peanut butter. But there is. BECAUSE THIS MIGHT BE THE WORST PEANUT BUTTER EVER. It’s 2020. WWIII. Kobe. Corona. Killer Hornets. You don’t need this peanut butter.

  • Stir.

  • Get oil everywhere on counter tops and maybe clothes.

  • Stir.

  • Stir.

  • Spill oil into the sink because this cannot be happening.

  • Stir.

  • Stir.

  • Result: O-K peanut butter.

  • Add Blueberry Jam: It’s also OK.

The Cost

We are going to assume you eat 6 jars of Peanut butter per year. We easily go through 2x that, but recognize that may not be the norm.

Peanut Butter

  • Yearly: $38

  • Yearly: $21

  • Yearly: $30

  • Yearly: $26

  • Yearly: $24

  • Public Goods $4.75

  • Smucker's Natural $3.49

  • Justin's Classic $4.99

  • Santa Cruz Organics $4.29

  • 365 Organic No Sugar $3.99

Money Report: Lol. So you have to pay more for the worst peanut butter. It’s more expensive than Justin’s!

Jam

  • Public Goods Organic Jam, 12oz, $4.00

  • Crofters Organic Wild Blueberry Conserve, 10oz $2.99

  • Sprouts Organic Preserves, 12oz $3.29

  • Thrive Market Organic Fruit Spread, 10oz, $2.99

Money Report: We did not compare fancy, $15 blueberry preserves because that would be blueberries to raspberries. Basically, they are within $1 of each other, especially if you account for the smaller size.
