Lulu Organics Vetiver + Black Pepper Hair Powder Review 2023 | Non-toxic Dry Shampoo

Lulu Organics Hair Powder: We’ve been using this talc-free dry shampoo for months. Here is our review.

The Top Line:

BUY. We have loved ❤️ using Lulu Organics Hair Powder over the last few months. Made with only 4 ingredients, and virtually plastic-free, we like that the powder keeps us neat between washes. Also, Lulu Organics is budget-friendly, comes in a travel-sized option, and has 6 different scent options.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $28 for 4oz or $12.85 for the 1oz travel size

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Pretty darn clean! Corn starch, white clay, baking soda and essential oils for the scented hair powders. There is also an unscented version.

  • Packaging: We ordered ours on Amazon.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: Amazon…. but the Lulu Organics store is easy peasy to navigate. Shipping is a few dollars.

  • Good to know: The travel size bottle has a little plastic top, like a pepper shaker! We haven’t seen the full sized one but believe it is 100% plastic-free! We got ours in travel-sized for its packability.

  • What’s Your Impact? Minimal plastic and zero chemicals. Most dry shampoos either come in aerosol form or in a plastic bottle. This one has little or no plastic, meaning your impact is significantly less than typical dry shampoos. Plus the formula is talc-free.

The Good:

The vetiver + black pepper scent is a touch masculine. Like.

There are 6 other scents, including an unscented version. Like x2.

Ingredients are absolutely minimal.

Application is smooth and disappears into your hair.

Works as well as other dry shampoos.

Cost is very reasonable.

Available on Amazon or from the Lulu Organics Storefront.

The Bad:

One minor nitpick is that the travel sized has a little bit of plastic.

The Experience

We have used the range between plain old baby powder (unbeknownst to us that it could contain talc…) up through to Klorane in the non-aerosol version. for our in-between days. For reference, we have dark hair with streaks of grey. Here’s our experience with Lulu Organics hair powder:

  • You dust out the powder in your hand, like a pepper shaker — it’s kind of cute!

  • The powder is super fine, which we like because it means it spreads nicely.

  • The application is manual.. dump a little in your hands, rub your hands…. then work through your hair.

  • You could also dump some directly onto your hair, but we like having the control via palms.

  • We don’t notice a white cast in our dark hair, which is great.

  • Personally, we can only really skip one day, and for that one day, this powder works wonders.💇

  • The Vetiver and Black Pepper scent is a little masculine, but we like it.

The Cost

Your experience of how many bottles you go through in a year will vary based on the type of powder or aerosol you are using. So we’ll provide the cost based on ounce (even though some are dry and some are aerosol…). Here is Lulu Organics Hair Powder compared to other common dry shampoos like Batste, Oribe, and Klorane:

Money Report: Compared to other non-aerosol options, Lulu Organics Hair Powder in the original size is not a bad deal. Batiste will be the cheapest, but with non-aerosol, it’s unclear whether you’ll use more or less. Plus: it’s aerosol. Lulu Organics powder is price competitively.
