byHumankind Shower Routine Roundup Review | Zero-Waste Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body Wash Bars
The Top Line:
Sadly, no. After reviewing byHumankind's shampoo bars (both Rosemary and Citrus-Lavender), Grapefruit conditioner bar, and Blood Orange Bergamot Body Wash bar, we are sadly a no on byHumankind’s Shower Routine. Given that we are iffy on 2 out of 3, we are a no on the whole kit, despite the natural ingredients and drastic plastic reduction.
The Breakdown:
Cost & Products: $45 for Shampoo, Conditioner, and Body wash bar plus 3 dishes for each bar. Individually, the bars are $15 and each dish is $5.
How ‘Clean’ Is This? Each of the 3 items is relatively clean when it comes to ingredients. Shampoo is sulfate-free. However, there is sustainably sourced palm oil in the shampoo and body wash. All scents are essential oil or otherwise natural ingredients like annatto seed.
Packaging: Minimal. Comes in a recycled/recyclable paper sleeve.
Purchasing & Shipping: Free since it’s over $15
Extra Info: We did not buy the set, but we did buy all three separately! Our current bathroom set up includes the scents exactly matching the “Warm Set,” which is Citrus-Lavender Shampoo bar, Grapefruit conditioner bar, and Blood Orange + Bergamot body wash bar.
We had previously reviewed the byHumankind Rosemary Shampoo bar, which is not currently an option.
What’s Your Impact? Significantly less plastic per year.
For shampoo, US consumes 550 million bottles of just shampoo per year. Conditioners are little less than that, and body washes are a bit more than that. So we are talking about roughly 1.5 billion bottles for shower routines per year.

Our recommendation: Sadly, we are a no on byHumankind’s Shower Routine. Given that we are iffy on 2/3, we are a no on the whole kit.
We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
