KeepingItNatural Lip Color in Naked Pink 2020 Review | Zero-Waste Lip Color

The Top Line: We liked the product, but too much shimmer for our personal taste.

We tried the cruelty-free, zero waste KeepingItNatural’s Zero-Waste Lip Color in Naked Pink. The price was about in line with average— much less than Sephora brand colors but a bit more than your average drugstore brands. The texture was ok — a little tough to put on but smooth and creamy. It looks like it may hold up (read: not melt) in warm weather and we like that it was in a tin, but will continue to be on the lookout for brands and colors that offer lip color with no shimmer.

The Breakdown:

  • Cost & Products: $12 for one tin of lip color.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Pretty clean. Natural ingredients in a tin that can be recycled,

  • Packaging: Manila envelope and the tin. That’s it!

  • Purchasing & Shipping: We got ours on Etsy.

  • Good to Know: It’s vegan and cruelty-free as well.

  • Coupons: None that we know of.

  • Whats Your Impact? Zero plastic compared to the multiple components on a normal tube of lipstick.

The Efficacy

We are lip color fans and tinted lip moisturizers. We don’t claim to be lipstick divas but we like adding a bit of color to our face:

  • It is a little hard/tough to get out BUT…

  • This is good, it also means it’s a little resistant to melting

  • Color does go on a little uneven

  • There is some shimmer if you are into that

  • We used our fingers to apply color since it was so light, but the company recommends a brush and we would too for their darker shades.

The Cost

We are just going to compare to other tinted lip moisturizer and some lipsticks:

  • KeepingItNatural Lip Color in Naked Pink $12

  • Honest Tinted Lip Balm $9

  • NARS Lip Balm $28

  • Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm $5

  • Neutrogena Revitalizing Lip Balm $9

  • Theme Fragrance Rose Clay Lip Tint $20

  • Lush Lip Balm $13

Money Thoughts: Somewhere in the middle. Neither here nor there.

The Good:

Zero waste - no plastic at all

A lot of product included in the tin & priced reasonably

Comes in many shades, most of them with shimmer (we tested out Naked Pink, which has a slightly gold sheen to it)

Pretty solid, means it hopefully won’t melt in LA’s summer

The Bad:

We aren’t fans of shimmer, so that was a bummer

Product was a bit hard, but hopefully that’s a blessing in LA’s summer

Our Recommendation:
We thought the KeepingItNatural Lip Color was a fun edition to lip colors, and we would recommend trying the line for zero-waste lip color options for those who LIKE shimmer. For us, we will continue to look for a more matte or slight gloss but non-shimmer color.

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
