Morihata Binchotan Charcoal Body Scrub Towel 2020 Review | Zero-Waste, Sustainable Alternative to Your Plastic Loufah

The Top Line: We think the Morihata Binchotan Charcoal Body Scrub Towel is a BUY!

While a bit on the pricey side, we like that this body scrub towel is made with the charcoal of Japanese Binchotan oak (known to be antibacterial and detoxiyding in nature), lathers up and exfoliates nicely (with a soft and coarser side), doesn’t smell (!!!), machine-washable and looks beautiful hanging in our shower.

We break it down for you:

  • Cost & Products Included: $21.00 for 1 charcoal activated body scrub towel on Amazon.

  • Coupons: None.

  • How ‘Clean’ Is This? Nearly zero-waste in that you can wash and re-use—but it is made of a cotton-polyester blend.

  • Packaging: Arrived in 100% recycled paper packaging.

  • Purchasing & Shipping: Easy — available through Amazon, Goop, Free People, Anthropologie and other retailers.

  • Whats Your Impact? No more plastic loufahs!

How Well Does It Actually Work?

Having used this Japanese body scrub towel for over a year now, we are very happy with the purchase! Exfoliates and lathers up well, while a much more hygienic when compared to plastic or natural loufahs and other body towels.

Value Comparison

The Binchotan Charcoal Body Scrub Towel certainly is not the value option, but likely will last much longer than any of the other options listed below:

Plastic Shower Sponge Loufahs: $7.99 for 4-pack

Natural Exfoliating Loufah Sponge: $11.99 for 6-pack

The Body Shop Exfoliating Skin Towel: $5.00 for 1

Morihata Binchotan Charcoal Body Scrub Towel: $21.00 for 1

What We Liked:

✔ Washable and reusable, we’ve had ours for over a year now (I imagine it might last for 5+ years)

✔ Aesthetically pleasing hanging in the shower (compared to bright plastic loufahs)

✔ Dries out and does not smell (beats out normal shower rags and natural loufahs in this regard)

✔ Packaging is recyclable

✔ Gently exfoliating (with a softer and coarser sides)

✔ Lathers up nicely (without over-lather)

✔ Naturally antibacterial

What We Didn’t Like:

A bit pricey at $21.00, definitely a splurge!

We're on a mission to reduce our personal carbon footprint with small, hopefully easy, changes in our home to fight against climate change. This means we're looking for products that may be all natural, ideally zero waste, reusable or compostable -- while still being affordable!
